Well when i first read about it, it wasn't on that site. that's what i found with a quick Google search. the one i read about before was more recent than 1999 and it did kill a Savannah kitten. This is the sole reason i went with killed.

I know there are pros and cons of both but just the thought of losing my kitten to a vaccine scares the crap out of me. even though the risk is very very small i just didn't want to take it. I've lost a kitten before and that's the last time i can remember where i cried like a little girl.

You certainly have a point wrt reversion: when I graduated, parvovirusenteritis was making its way into the canine world, and one of the suspected causes was a feline vaccine virus (panleukopenia) that had become virulent again. And we don´t want to lose kitties!

My kitten got his first vet check today...12 weeks...She advised she would like to give him on his next visit, vaccines for Rabies and Lukemia...is that recommended for Savannahs? also, she advised he show mild symtoms, but has felien herpes...symptom is the watering eyes and wiping them...when he was coming home...stressed from car ride and new environment..But he is not showing any other issues now and he does not have the watering eyes or wiping....Vet said he should grow out of it as he gets older...In the sense that the symptoms will not show and he should be ok, unless he gets stressed, then he might show signs , ie- watering of the eyes..Any thoughts...?

I know this thread is from a few months ago, and you may have received this response, but I have read and been told by our breeder that we SHOULD NOT get our Savannah vaccinated for FELV (Feline Leukemia Virus) as there have been reports of very bad side effects and will possibly give them the disease. Since Savannahs shouldn't really be outside anyways, they shouldn't be able to get it from another cat anyways...

Thanks Dave - that is pretty much what we advise everyone ;)

Ok guys. so I am going to take our new Savannah in for vaccines at 16 weeks. FRVCP and rabies. I'm assuming distemper will also be give at this time. So its a no for FELV, correct?

I am glad these threads are being brought up. When I get a chance I will begin collecting info together into my thread about info to give to vets.
