cats sleeping patterns

i don't know. I think all I have trained the cats for is that they know if we are asleep they can't careen across the bed or they get shut out of the room. So they have simply learned to do their kitty racetrack avoiding the bed. But if one of us gets up, that is the signal to play. So if one gets up and the other is ill for example, the bedroom door needs to be shut to prevent that playtime.

I think that they learn our schedule. But how much Ella's schedule will change will depend on Ella. My F1 Missy is still a crazy cat and she will be 10 years old very soon. I don't think she will ever be a sedate cat, nor do I want her to be!

Mine sleeps from mid morning till late afternoon, 6ish give or take then runs around and plays, and we will play lots with him as hes so full of energy. For a few weeks he was causing havoc all night, and we couldnt sleep, but its passed and its been 3 weeks give or take or a little less where hes been great at night, and seems settled. As I first said, he wont sleep with us, which I wish he would, so I cant pick him up cuddle with him. Hes still a bit aloof with us, but affectionate other. He wont sit on or near us, but definitely loves us. I hope he eventually does though.

Thanks for sharing your experience! am sure she will let us know what works for her as time goes on.

Sounds like the same sleep schedule as Ella! She doesn't wake us up at night - if I get up she wants to talk and be lovey.

LOL Our boy was coming in and tapping our arms, and Id look over and see this face looking at me like, wake up please. Then he starting being so naughty, jumping up walls, dragging a area rug around, you name it. But it seems to have stopped, so I hope it stays that way as its hard being woken up several times a night from banging, or jumping or you name it. If I get up, its the same scenario, hes looking for pets and a little I love you baby. These babies are too much lol

I am having a wave of naughty behavior in my house this past week - don't know what's gotten into them. I can't blame it on age because they are all different ages, eight months to three years. My office chair is knocked over, items from my computer desk are scattered on the floor, food is strewn everywhere, and water sloshed out of the bowls... it has become a nightly homecoming lately...

Oohh Patti, i think Moes and Mila read your post.. Now they also scoop the water out of the bowl with their paws. I think it is Moes who does it the most. And I have a wooden floor, so a whole day water on the floor is not so good. First I put a towel underneath.. But when they run over the towel they take the whole bowl and everything with them. Now I think i'm gonna buy two heavy bowls. I don't know how to say it in english.. But it looks like stone, only smooth on the inside so I still can clean it. And my plan is to buy a large one and a smaller one.. And I put the water in the smaller one and that bowl in the big bowl. So when Moes feels the need to dig into the water, everyting goes in the bigger bowl.. Not on my wooden floor. I thinkkk this possibly can work.

About their sleeping pattern, i go to bed around 11pm. They come upstairs with me. Go to their room and I play for maybe ten minutes with them. Give them their food and new water. Then i close the door and go to bed. I hear them play a little bit and then its quite. If i stand up in the middle of the night i hear them right away stand up. But I let them in that room. Maybe 5 minutes later it's quite again. My boyfriend is awake at 4.45 am and when he's ready with his coffee and washing and everything he lets them out of their room and they can run around in the whole house. This way works best for us, and i think they also think it's fine. In the weekends when I stay up late, sometimes Moes goes to his room around 11 and goes to sleep. I think they are getting used to it.
But never say never.. They're 7 months old so a lot can change.
But i really like it this way lol

Well now I feel better. I swear they sit there and look for trouble and they look like they are plotting. lol

This is exactly what I do, but I use a Sterilite storage box (like an under-the-bed storage bin) to put the water dispenser in.

So far I have found little things out of place and once she knocked my computer screen over (I have it anchored). She stands in front of the screen when it is off and looks at her reflection. I am sure when she gets bigger and we get her a companion cat there will be shenanigans :). We have a cat fountain that she drinks out of and she watches the water stream but so far has not played or put her paw in the water. It is going to be so fun to continue to see how she changes. Love reading about your experiences!
