I think the litterbox thing might be an individual issue... I have not had issues with any singletons born here, they usually naturally go to the box like any other kitten

Yeah, George would just get busy and all of a sudden start looking perplexed and worried, kind of like a puppy, so I would take him to the litter box and he would go.
That's great, the best way to make sure they learn the appropriate behavior is to catch them at the right instant! Very like puppy training I think

Xumi was a singleton, and really the only issue has been that she did not learn bite inhibition. At six months old, I'm still working on behaviour modification with her. It's going really slowly.
