I'm sorry you got the cold shoulder from breeders, that is quite surprising to me. I always feel that when at a show I am an ambassador for the breed and enjoy educating the public about them. Perhaps it was just an overly stressful and busy weekend - I mean why attend an EXPO if you're not willing to expose the public to you're cats. Having said that, most breeders will NOT let you handle their cats - way too easy to spread disease that way - which is not the case with dogs, so much easier to get hands on with them. Love the chameleon BTW!

I have noticed the same thing at shows and heard the same complaints when I was actually showing from the public... I usually have my Mel serval /Siri exhibit and enjoy talking to the public, but sometimes the days can be stressful... I think at times, exhibitors forget that without the public there would be no show... If I am busy, I will usually ask the person (s) to come with me to a ring or come back later...

Showing is stressful and no, cats are not like dogs. It's much easier IMHO to walk home a disease from a cat show hall than from a dog show. Dogs are constantly exposed to others' germs since they are by nature exposed to a lot more over their lifetime-- cats are not.

Also-- consider this-- once a dog has been in a ring, it's 99 percent of the time done for the day. So you handling/touching its fur won't effect anything. A cat can go up to 6-7 rings in a day so they are repeatedly brought before a judge albeit a different one each time (which means that's 6-7 times they can win best cat.)

And from my experience, cat exhibitors are very different from dog exhibitors. The many dog shows I've been to, most of the exhibitors are outgoing and friendly, make eye contact, are engaged with spectators and judges alike, and look a bit more normal; ie, I don't see a lot of them dressed as their breed. Yanno, not a lot of folks wearing dalmation spotted clothes for example.

At the cat shows, generally, not all of them, the exhibitors exhibit feline fickleness, focus their attention mostly on their cats, rarely make eye contact with the curious public, and grudgingly engage in conversation with fellow exhibitors. They are also frequently dressed in clothes that imitate their breed. Yanno, the bengal and SV breeders who wear leopard/cheetah spotted clothes. It gives the impression that you're taking a bit of a risk to approach a person wearing fake ears, spotted clothes and whose body language says "stay away".
