Question re blood test results

Sue, is she still not eating? If not, what are they doing to prevent her from losing more weight?

Cisco is having a feeding tube put in as we speak, since he was still not eating. Feeding tubes often work wonders with cats especially and sometimes jumpstart their appetite. Granted he does have all the itis', but is on meds and still would only nibble a little bit at a time - not enough to sustain life.

Have they thought about an exploratory? That is actually what saved Cisco, since his original dx was pancreatic cancer.

We see her eating all of the time. We also see her drinking water, using the litter box. Except for the weight loss, she seems pretty normal. She is jumping up on the bed or couch. She comes when called. Dr. says lymph nodes are normal, ultra sound showed nothing abnormal. She can not feel any lumps. The internal medicine specialist that she spoke to today recommends an x-ray and testing for Feline Leukemia and aids. 9/2010 she had FELV vaccine and FVRCP vaccine and rabies vaccine. She was 10.5 pounds. I asked the vet if she possible had a dental problem and she said no since we see her eating. Sue

Oh, ok...well, just because they are eating does not mean they do not have dental problems. I used to see Cisco eating all the time...but he was losing weight (IN April) and it turned out it was his teeth...

Vet wanted to do X-ray, FELV test and Feline aids test. With all of the research I have done, I have read that average life span is 10-14 years ( she is 11), average female weight is 5-11 pounds ( she is 6.4 and possibly has just lost the weight chasing or running from Tink) and that calcium blood test results are often wrong. Since she shows no other symptoms, has been vaccinated and is an indoor cat only, we have decided to take a wait and see attitude. Until we see something else, I'm going with it was probably inaccurate blood test result. I had done complete blood work up, urinalysis, 2 ultrasounds. Only symptom was weight loss. She has even been seen playing with toys and she usually does not play with toys. Thanks for asking and for your advise. Sue

So, good to hear nothing more was found. As I mentioned earlier, testing should be based on a clinical exam where a problem is seen, or you will be testing blindly (at least your vet will be!). Best of luck, and hope you don't see more problems!

Yeah, in a cat- definitely. And she's not even a senior-senior- like 16-18 (when they tend to get real skinny).

Odd question- but how are her teeth? Could it be something as simple as needing a dental?
Trisha, you were right about the teeth. I had Nadia in for a checkup and her shots and was told that she needed a double crownectomy, because she had FORL. She had the dental work done Tuesday 11/8 and I can already feel a significant difference in her weight. Why the vet didn't catch this 6 months ago, is beyond me. Nadia seems to be feeling much better. She would come when called for her meds and did not fight me at all. Sue

I'm just glad your girl is doing better!
