I'm sure he will be fine. As to a cone, it may just be a "wait and see" thing. I've never had to use one with a neuter... after they've given the area a quick bath to get rid of the hospital smell they seem unbothered by it. You would need a cone if they just can't leave the incision alone...

A neuter is about a 15 minute procedure (actually probably less) and the cats require minimum sedation for it. I have never provided any special after-care other than trying to keep them from running wild. They rarely show any discomfort and I have never seen a neuter slow down a cat.

My vet used isoflurane on all my boys' neuters. Easy anesthesia to administer and recovery is lightening quick. During a routine neuter, no stitches are necessary; collar shouldn't be necessary. You'll be surprised at how quickly the cats recover with little to no indication of discomfort.

This is how Atticus got his revenge the day he was neutered. Pics were taken within the hour he got back from the vet.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Sometimes my mind gets away with me on things that could happen. I still won't be quite sane until he is back home safe on Wednesday.

How old is Atticus now? Such a pretty boy. It's amazing how big he has gotten.

I'll make sure to have a cone on hand for Mr. Loks but am happy to know the cone of shame is usually not needed, thanks Bridgette :)
