When you want to quickly glance and only read the new posts under a thread, you can click on the forum title and you wills see a bright orange New image...this will tell you the new posts, since you were last on that thread.
To tell when a thread is new, you can look on the right side and see the date it was posted...that will give you a hint of whether you have seen that thread or not.
