Feeding Chicken?

When it comes to feeding Savannahs chicken there are various opinions. Some say raw chicken, some say cooked chicken, some say no chicken. Is there any consensus by breeders and vets?

There is no consensus as to whether raw or cooked is better. Raw has more nutrients but may contain bacteria and parasites that may be eliminated thru cooking. Cats have evolved to be obligate carnivores however and their gut can handle things that us wimpy humans cannot. Regardless if raw or cooked, the food must be balanced with muscle meat, organ meat and either bones or calcium and unless you are feeding whole prey, should also include supplements. The reason some say no chicken is that if your cat is going to be allergic to something, chances are high that it will be chicken.

Thanks.
Can I use chicken to supplement, as a treat, perhaps, to commercial cat food?

Absolutely. Best to use bones and skin, preferably dark meat with thighs having the best meat to bone ratio plus being loaded with taurine.

For an easy way to get other nutrients in, you can use Mazuri to add to the raw or partially cooked food.

Never feed a cat fully cooked chicken bones, they are a choking hazard once cooked.

Slightly cooked chicken to kill surface bacteria can be done in 10 minutes in the oven at 350 degrees.

Avoid buying any pre-ground meats, lots of surface area to attract bacteria when being processed.

Large sections here on raw food, and plenty of support from people who are feeding raw.
