Dooley still challenged

Well, Dooley was totally uncooperative at the vet. He wasn't going to let them get the butterfly in and he was no longer going to tolerate having the space helmet on. First time we ever had this issue and I called it off after the third attempt. We left without an updated blood panel and no blood/ammonia test. What we did get was blood from both me and the doctor and once he starts those back legs in motion it's game over.

Not sure where I go from here, but I guess I'll start practicing. I need to get a program down to keep him calm and really set up the whole visit so he's in better control and we get more predictable results. Justed a scared kitty, and I need to replay all the things that were different with this visit.

I feel your pain John! I have had "the talk" with my vet....."today is the last vet visit for the foreseeable future so do everything you need to as there is no way in hell I am getting her back here in the next month!" She is not vicious in the least but catching her is a nightmare and she can inflict pain while simply trying to get away. And Rafiki is only 16 lbs so I can only imagine the added fun of dealing with Dooley.

We get them into a carrier simply by asking. For the most part getting them out comes just as easy, although sometimes we need to take the top of the carrier off. Yesterday, different vet tech, the doctor was a bit rushed and after a miss on the first attempt with the butterfly it was game on.

As for doing the blood draw elsewhere, the blood/ammonia test needs to be conducted within minutes after collecting the sample. As rascal explained to me previously it doesn't take long for the test to be useless and the elevated rush of things is definitely noted by Dooley.
